Frequently Asked Questions🙋

Hypnotherapy is effective for addressing any behaviour or thought pattern that you no longer need or want.  For examples of these please see  What Can Hypnotherapy Help with?

Whether it's a habit, a negative thought process, or an emotional trigger, hypnotherapy can help you gain control over your thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations. It's a gentle yet powerful approach that doesn't require you to relive past events repeatedly. Instead, it focuses on empowering you to release the hold these triggers have on your body and mind, putting you back in control of your life.  It is used in conjuction with talking or psycotherapy.

Hypnotherapy FAQs Answered

Using a variety of therapeutic approaches along with emotional support, I create a personalised treatment plan for you.

What will hypnotherapy feel like?

You will be relaxed and able to speak to me  normally but perhaps feeling as if you are in a bit of a daydream.  Eyes are usually closed. We enter this state many times a day naturally.  Some clients experience a floating sensation and are reluctant to come out of it - I never rush a client and they come out when they are naturally ready and have finished the work they are doing in their mind.  They are then calm, relaxed and refreshed.  Water is available throughout the session as thirst seems to be a side effect.  I never touch a client in hypnosis unless there is a specific treatment to be undertaken and this will be discussed, planned and agreed by the client, in full beforehand.

What is Hypnotherapy?

The science behind hypnotherapy is straightforward: hypnosis shifts brainwaves from an alert Beta state to slower, higher-amplitude Alpha or Theta waves. This induces a state of relaxation and creativity, allowing ideas and solutions to flow without censorship or guilt.  I cannot suggest anything to you that goes against your own moral code.  Your brain will reject it.

Will I Say Things I'll Regret? You're always in control of what you say, and you won't do anything you don't remember afterwards.

Will I Lose Control? Contrary to popular belief, you need to be in control to let go. You can accept or reject suggestions, and you can stop the process at any time.

What to Expect During a Hypnotherapy Session

In a typical session, I'll guide you into a relaxed state using an induction procedure, making suggestions aligned with your goals. Your mind will be open to new ideas and resolutions, allowing for problem-solving with my guidance. You'll remain in control, able to talk and respond to me. Don't worry; you won't lose control or cluck like a chicken!

Will I Fall Asleep? Hypnosis isn't sleep; it's a deep state of relaxation where your mind is receptive to suggestions that are to your benefit.  Your mind will reject anything that is against your own moral code.

What If I Can't Be Hypnotised? Everyone can be hypnotised; it's a natural state of day dream we drift in and out of daily.

What If I Don't Do It Right? You don't have to worry about doing anything wrong; I'll guide you every step of the way. Hypnotherapy allows your mind to quieten into a daydream state, facilitating changes and clarity with my guidance. With a clear plan and the right support, rapid, positive changes can occur.

Who Should Not Have Hypnotherapy?

If you have been diagnosed with or show signs of psychosis, it would be unethical for me to treat you. Hypnotherapy is not suitable for individuals experiencing severe mental health conditions.

Will Hypnotherapy Work for Me?

For hypnotherapy to be effective, it's essential that you are open, honest, and fully committed to achieving the desired outcome. You must genuinely desire change and be willing to let go of the issue you're seeking help with. While a motivated client is likely to achieve realistic goals, it's important to understand that hypnotherapy does not guarantee a cure. Your willingness to actively participate in the process is crucial to achieving success.  Please don't book in to please anyone else or because someone has asked you to.

Does Hypnotherapy Work on Everyone including children?

Hypnotherapy induces a state similar to a daydream or Beta brainwave, a natural state that we experience multiple times throughout the day. Success with hypnotherapy depends on your willingness to work with the therapist, being open and receptive to suggestions and advice, and engaging in any recommended practices between sessions. Emotional support and talking is also an integral part of the process, ensuring that you feel supported and empowered throughout your journey.

Where Can I Find a Hypnotherapist Near Me?

I offer both in-person and online sessions to accommodate clients' needs. Face-to-face therapy is available at my home in North Herefordshire and at The Body Clinic in Leominster town centre. Additionally, I offer online sessions via Zoom/Teams, allowing me to work with clients worldwide. Both physical locations are wheelchair accessible, ensuring that everyone can access the support they need. Home visits are also available by arragement.

How much does it cost to see a hypnotherapist?

In the UK costs are usually between £50 and £150 and somethimes more for sessions. I charge £80 a session (usually an hour - longer is available by arrangement) and £300 for a nicotine addiction cessation (this is a longer, one-off session with prescripted tasks to undertake before the give up date)

Is Hypnotherapy Recognised by the NHS?

The National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, recognises hypnotherapy as a complementary therapy. So while hypnotherapy is not considered a primary treatment for medical conditions, it is advised as a supplement to conventional medical treatments for certain issues. Its always a good idea to rule out any medical conditions related to the way you are feeling such as routine blood tests etc.

What is the success rate of hypnotherapy?

Seven applications of hypnosis were rated as “highly effective” by at least 70% of respondents: stress reduction, enhancing well-being, preparing for surgery, anxiety, mindfulness, childbirth, and enhancing confidence. source: 8 Jan 2024 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

Can hypnotherapy help with weightloss?

Yes, I would recommend as part of an 8 session course of hypnosis.  This deep dive into questions like "why do you over-eat?", "what's eating you?" is life changing and sometimes with unexpecte answers. The evidence says it can help alter the beliefs and emotional connections that interfere with your ability to modify and adapt healthy lifestyle choices.

How long does it take to see results from hypnotherapy?
I take a snap shot of symptoms on a first session. Hypnotherapy sessions may show results right after that first  session,  and you may feel the positive effects a few weeks later between sessions. Symptoms are mapped and studied and tweaked and progress discussed together so you can really see the results and how they were achieved.  The skills you learn about how to treat your thoughts and emotions will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Can hypnosis stop overthinking?

Hypnotherapy can help you stop overthinking by identifying the thinking patterns.  With knowledge comes control and choice.  You decide what you think and when rather than the other way around.

Can ADHD people be hypnotised?

YES people with ADHD are excellent candidates for hypnotherapy because they are naturally prone to slipping into these deep, imaginative states. I am 🙋 this person!
